Festival FAQ
When/how will I receive my badge(s)?
Badge pick up will be located in the Paramount Theatre Lobby at 713 Congress Avenue the week of the fest.
Are badges refundable?
All sales are final. There are no refunds on badges for any reason.
Can I upgrade my badge?
Email info@old.austintheatre.org for inquiries regarding upgrading your badge. As long as the other levels are not sold out, we should be able to accommodate.
I’m an ACE badge holder. When/how do I choose my 4 headliner shows?
You will receive a “Choose Your 4 Headliners” e-mail and form closer to the fest. Your chosen headliner tickets will be with your badges at pick-up. If you have any questions about this process, please contact info@old.austintheatre.org
What about age restrictions? Can underage patrons get into shows?
There is no age restriction on the festival as a whole and minors can purchase badges or single tickets to the Paramount shows. However, some of our Moontower venues are 18+ and, due to their liquor licensing/permit, are not able to let in underage patrons regardless of the event.
The following venues are all ages: Paramount, Stateside at the Paramount, Parish Underground, The Hideout, New York new York and New Movement, Google Fiber Stage
These venues are 18+ only: The Parish, Cap City, The Speakeasy and The Velv Comedy Lounge.
I have a FAN badge. How does that work for the bigger headliner shows?
While we will hold seats for all badge holders at Paramount and Cap City shows, the FAN badge section will fill up fast and access to these shows is not guaranteed. If there is a headliner show that is a must-see, we do suggest purchasing single tickets to that show.
Will I be able to purchase single tickets to any of the non-headliner shows?
A VERY limited amount of advance single tickets will go on sale closer to the event.
What time do doors open for performances?
If you’re attending the first show of the night at the Paramount or Stateside Theatres, doors will open one hour before showtime. We recommend getting there early for the best seat and enjoying a drink. After that, typically doors will open 30 minutes prior to showtime. Other venues will open doors 30 minutes prior to showtime for all shows. These are rules of thumb only and actual times may vary by venue depending on size.
If I want to see the next show at the same venue, can I just stay in my seat?
We will be clearing venues completely between shows so we can clean up and prepare for the next round of fans.
Are there preferred hotels offering preferred rates to festers?
Unfortunately we do not have any discounted rates this is actually due to an overall hotel room shortage happening in Austin across the board throughout the year. We did make an effort to secure a rate (always wanting to do right by our festers), but were not able to do so. We are sorry for any inconvenience.
Where do I submit materials to be considered as a performer at the festival?
Thank for your interest in Moontower! Unfortunately we do not take unsolicited requests for submissions. Our booking staff works diligently throughout the year and scours the comedy earth to find Moontower artists. Perhaps one day the Moontower light will shine on you! Moontower Volunteer Program – The Deets
What does a Moontower Volunteer do?
Depending on the shift you register for, you might be helping with…
- Line Management – people like to know what’s going on. What line should I be in? When will the seating open?
- I’m a VIP – where do I go? Can I park over there? Is this going to fill up before I can get in? Where’s ____ venue and who’s there?
- Badge checker – The stinking badges are uber important. You’ll know who’s in and who’s out.
- Counter – how many badges have entered? How many single ticket? How many VIP’s? How many total? What does the fire code allow? How close are we to capacity? Keep it all organized and up-to-date.
- VIP area host – here’s where you’re supposed to sit. Are YOU supposed to be sitting here? Anything you need? No, we don’t supply that sort of thing…
- General Help – Ticket taking or crowd seating or running an errand or setting up chairs or getting something for the stage manager or, well, you get the picture.
- Break Down – Oh, and everybody pitches in at the end of shows to clear the crowd out and re-set for the next set.

How old do I have to be?
18 and over, please!
Is there a minimum number of volunteer nights? Yes, you must be able to volunteer for at least two nights. We’d love you to volunteer for more if you can!
What are the shift times, and how long are they? For the most part, our volunteers help out between 4:00 pm and 12:00 am during the fest; shifts are between 4 and 6 hours each.
What do volunteers get? Tons of love and thank you’s from the festival team, as well as some really cool bennies:
- A cool t-shirt!
- Free entry into shows (on the day you are volunteering, before or after your shift).
- You will probably see most of the show(s) you work. Volunteers will tag-team with each other to keep an eye on the front of the house while enjoying the fruits of your labor.
- You get to see how it happens and make it happen – a behind-the-scenes experience at how shows, and festivals, are done.
Is there a volunteer orientation?
Yes there is! Please be prepared to attend a two-hour orientation (TBA).
